Site Specific Projects

A common feature in Kitt Johnson’s artistic work is the site specific. The site specific space offers a setting and content, which instigate choreographic solutions other than, those required for a conventional theatre space. Working in these two completely different spaces proves to be mutually beneficial.

Over the years there have been 25 site specific projects, of which 8 were created in close co-operation with visual artists. Much of the site specific work has been affiliated either to the Danish based Transform project or to the European artists’ network, Provinz Europa.

SELECTED SITE SPECIFIC WORKS

2006

Lemonwidow, Festival de la Nouvelle Danse, Uzés, France, 15th June. Location: Park.

"The amzing dancer Kitt Johnson deluded, amused and captured her audience in the public space of La Promenade des Marroniers."
Muriel Plantier, Le Midi Libre, 16 June 2006 - about Lemonwidow.

2005

en Route, Happy Days!, Opéra de Lille, France, 1st October. Location: The public areas of the newly renovated opera house.

“en Route” is not the title of a performance. It is the designation of a process which so far has led to three performances and one film sequence. “en Route” is the journey of a figure. It travels through different circumstances, locations and states. In its suitcase it carries choreographic material. In confrontation with new conditions this material will be expanded, renewed, discarded or replaced as required.

This figure was first developed in 1998 in the site specific art project “Second Hand”, Provinz Europa at Schloss Plüschow, former DDR. In 1999 it appeared in the prize winning stage performance “Stigma”, Denmark. This performance is still touring.

In 2003 it showed up in the site specific performance “House of Absence”, Festivalle de la Nouvelle Danse Uzés, France. And later that same year in the dance film “Quintet” by Cathrine Maximoff, Arte.

Kitt Johnson will create the choreography, dance and costume. The music will be especially composed and performed by Sture Ericson.

Three performances are planned for Saturday 1st October 2005.
