The Mirror

Having created a series of unique solo performances since 1992, Kitt Johnson now unfolds her distinctive artistic universe in a full evening solo piece, The Mirror, which takes us further into the mysterious layers of human nature. The performance was awarded the prestigious Danish "Reumert" in 2003.

"Rare is the choreographer who can say a great deal with very little … an intense dance, intensely performed"
New York Times

The Mirror is a performance about the human need to perceive oneself through journeys of mirrored reflections. Alone, with (one’s) recognisable and non-recognisable self-image projections, and with the risk of getting lost in this self-created hall of mirrors, it closes the eyes for a breath’s duration - in the hope of a sign.

Choreography/dance: Kitt Johnson
Composition/live music: Sture Ericson
Light design: Mogens Kjempff
Costume design: Charlotte Østergaard

Length of performance 55 minutes.

Produced by X-act with support from the Danish Theatre Council and the Municipality of Copenhagen.

The performance premiered at The Chapel of Assistens Cemetary in Copenhagen April 17th 2002.

A renewed touring version premiered at the Festival Bellone Brigittines in Bruxelles in August 2002.
