Body, Anatomy & Choreography
A workshop in Expressive Anatomy
with Kitt Johnson
By means of contact with the body’s deep anatomical components, specific movement qualities are awakened, plus mental states and, last but not least, a wealth of images which ultimately can define the body’s expression. In other words, a transformation of the body sourced within the body itself. It is of particular interest to investigate to what extent the nature of the specific image material is recognizable to us collectively, as humans, or to what extent it is determined exclusively individually. As, for example, when the gentle, non-rhythmical pumping of the cerebral spinal fluid prompts an image of the gill movement of certain deep sea fish.
This workshop is the pedagogic result of the creative process fashioned from experiences with the two performances, Aortas Partitur (2003), Rankefod (2005) and Palimpsest (2006). The workshop makes use of Authentic Movement and ’hands on’ contact as well as improvisation/composition work based on anatomic experience.
Body, Anatomy and Choreography
These three words describe the thematic frame for a series of Kitt Johnson X-act activities for 2003 - 2008.
Whereas number one, Aortas Partitur (2003), with its first major incursion into the body, concerned itself widely with all emerging energies, qualities and images, and number two, Rankefod (2005), concentrates on the body’s evolutionary memory, Palimpsest focused on the relationship between the skin's two sides, between Man as an organic entity and the surrounding world.
The theme of »Body, Anatomy & Choreography« is scheduled to round off, in 2008, with Pan Creas - an international mini-festival offering performances, workshops and a seminar.
Duration and Target Group
The workshop is proposed for 3 days 3 5 hours a day.
Recommended for movers with experience in dance and composition work.
