Otto Ramstad (USA): Hello Nervous System
Playing in between scientific observer and empathetic participant, Ramstad teases out distinctions between the nervous system and his nervous system. He is researching how the nervous system spreads a net of attention throughout the body, physically touches all of its substance, and functions as an aggregate of processes. Hello Nervous System is not an anatomical study, but the insistent position that the dancer you see in front of you is first and foremost a person.

Choreography/Performance: Otto Ramstad
Music: Tim Glenn
Lighting Design: Olive Bieringa
Film: Josie Winship
Film Editing: Otto Ramstad

Otto Ramstad is a dance and video artist with an insatiable interest in the process of creating kinesthetic visual images with movement. He is a practitioner of Body-Mind Centering. Ramstad co-directs, with Olive Bieringa, The BodyCartography Project. They build dance, video and installation works that investigate the body’s relationship to the physical, architectural, climatic, technological and social landscapes in urban/wilderness and private/public contexts. Their award winning works have been presented in the US, Canada, Brazil, New Zealand, Japan, Europe, and Russia. He was a scholarship student at Impulstanz in Vienna in 2005 and 2008 and received a two-year fellowship from the Archibald Bush Foundation in 2006. He has danced in the work of Morgan Thorson, Sara Shelton Mann, DD Dorvillier, Miguel Gutierrez, and Kitt Johnson, amongst others. Work in progress versions of Hello Nervous System have been seen in Fresh Tracks at Dance Theater Workshop, NYC, Gare au Theatre, Paris and at the Ritz Theater, Minneapolis.
