Mellemrum #1

Video excerpt
With such a strong charisma she fills the enormous raw space, makes herself the owner of the place with a deep sensitivity. The dance is superbly powerful and expressive.
Susanne Trudsø, Terpsichore, May 2008
Mellemrum #1 takes place in an underground parking lot, between humid walls of raw concrete, parked cars, load-bearing pillars, and the eternal clatter of the ventilation system. This nowhere land, with Kitt Johnson as the only human element, comes alive to electro-acoustic manipulations by composer Sture Ericson, based on real sounds on location.
Mellemrum #1 is essentially an exploration of the general concept of the spaces in between. Plus an in-depth exploration of the specific site of this solo – its past and present as well as its physical and psychological peculiarity. In Mellemrum #1, Kitt Johnson invites the audience to see a familiar space through a performative perspective; to experience the extraordinary in the ordinary.
Mellemrum #1 premiered in Copenhagen in 2008 as part of the first MELLEMRUM festival in the Inner City. The piece was created specifically for a private underground parking lot in the old city centre of Copenhagen (Adelgade 11-13), but it can be – and has been on several occasions – adapted to other, similar spaces.
