Video excerpt

Now in her late fifties, Johnson remains a formidable presence and performer… Rankefod’s overall poetic resonance is enigmatic, more easily felt than explained… it’s epic and awe-inspiring!”
Michael Crabb, Toronto Star, April 2017
(on the occasion of Rankefod being the opening event of World Stage’s 18 day festival. It performed in this festival once before, in 2008. Back then it was nominated for a DORA.)

Brilliant, original, and completely supreme body art!
Majbrit Hjelmsbo, Weekend Avisen, April 2009

An evolutionary solo performance in celebration of the origin of the species. The pre-archaic body and senses live on in contemporary humans – just there on the other side of the cell membrane, in the primordial slime – like living pockets of memories from the time before homo erectus, awaiting a password.

Rankefod registers as number two on the list of Kitt Johnson X-act performances which focus on Body, Anatomy and Choreography. Whereas number one, Aortas Partitur (2003), dealt widely with all of the emerging energies, qualities and images of the body, Rankefod concentrates specifically on uncovering the body’s evolutionary memory, beyond its physical reality.

Rankefod premiered at Brøndsalen in Copenhagen 13th of April 2005.

In 2010, Rankefod was selected as one of 12 best performances of the 00’s by the Danish newspaper Information. In June 2009, Rankefod was nominated for a DORA – the award of the Toronto performing arts community – for best dance performance of the season 2008-09. In December 2005 Kitt Johnson’s solo Rankefod was selected for the Danish newspaper Information’s dance canon.
